Barcelona team, led by coach Hans Flick, is preparing to play a new friendly match on Friday evening against its opponent Birmingham City team, as part of the preparations for the upcoming new season 2026/27.
Barcelona has played only one friendly match so far, on last Friday evening, against Europa, where it achieved a victory of four goals to one, in the first appearance of the Egyptian Hamza Abdel Karim with Hans Flick's squad.
Hamza Abdel Karim was also included in the Barcelona squad that traveled to England last Monday to undergo the training camp until August 3, during which two friendly matches will be played against both Birmingham City and Preston North End.
Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Barcelona's match against Birmingham City will be used by Hans Flick to evaluate the chances of some young players regarding the possibility of securing a place for them in the first team.

It explained that this match will serve as a test to determine whether the young player Jofre Torrents can maintain his position as a full-back, and whether Espart possesses sufficient qualifications to be a substitute for Jules Koundé or a suitable option to compensate for the absence of the injured Dutchman Frenkie de Jong, whether he or his teammate Brian Fariñas.
Flick also wants to monitor some other young players, according to the same newspaper, such as Hamza Abdel Karim who caught the attention of the club's sporting director, in order to determine whether he represents a good attacking option, as his physical strength and ability to score goals will be an additional incentive.
Otherwise, Flick will focus on first-team players such as Christensen, Bernal, Marc Casadó and Gerard Martín, while Yako and Iker Rodríguez compete for the third goalkeeper position following the expected departure of Ter Stegen.
