The Spanish newspaper Marca revealed the message directed by Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine national team, to Vozinha, the goalkeeper of Cape Verde.
The Argentine national team had secured qualification to the round of 16 after their exciting victory over Cape Verde with a score of 3-2 after extra time, in a match that witnessed a remarkable performance from the veteran goalkeeper, aged 40.
Messi's message to Vozinha
Vozinha said, in statements reported by the newspaper from The Times of India: "I went to Messi after the match, so he hugged me and said to me: You are wonderful.. and your people should be proud of you".
The Cape Verde goalkeeper added: "Hearing these words from a person like Lionel Messi means a lot to me, so I thanked him and said to him: Thank you Leo, you are the best".
Vozinha indicated that he asked the Argentine captain to exchange jerseys, and Messi replied that he would give him his jersey after finishing the television interviews inside the locker rooms.
Marca pointed out that Messi continued during the match to enhance his record after scoring his 20th goal in the history of his participations in the World Cup, while the Cape Verde national team bid farewell to the tournament after becoming the smallest country in terms of population to reach the knockout stages in the history of the World Cup.
It is scheduled that the Argentine national team will meet the Egyptian national team in the round of 16, on July 7, in an anticipated match that brings together the two teams.
