Press reports confirmed Jürgen Klopp's imminent assumption of the technical director position for the German national team in the coming period, following the machines' exit from the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The German national team, under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann, exited the 2026 World Cup in the round of 32, losing to Paraguay on penalties (4-3) after a positive 1-1 draw.
Developments in the German Federation's negotiations with Klopp
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Jürgen Klopp and the German Football Association have reached a preliminary agreement to lead the team in the next phase.
Plettenberg added via his "X" account: "A major breakthrough occurred after yesterday's negotiations in New York, USA, where a preliminary agreement was reached on a contract extending until the end of the 2030 World Cup."
He continued: "Only some final details remain for signing the contracts, so Klopp is now one step closer to taking over as the new coach of the German national team."
The German journalist noted: "Klopp's transfer from the Red Bull organization is expected to be completed after a decisive meeting with managing director Oliver Mintzlaff in New York, no later than the beginning of next week."
The transfer market expert concluded his tweet by saying: "The German Football Association intends to officially announce the agreement with Klopp today."
The newspaper "Bild" had reported that Klopp and his agent Marc Kosicke appeared with Neundorf and Watzke along with their luggage, following a meeting with German Federation officials that lasted more than 4 hours.
The report indicated that the contract will extend for 4 years, keeping Klopp as coach of his national team until the 2030 World Cup, and he will receive a salary slightly higher than what Nagelsmann was earning.
Klopp, who currently holds an administrative position with the Red Bull group that owns several clubs, will receive a salary slightly higher than 7 million euros.
