The Portuguese newspaper A Bola revealed that Jorge Jesus reached a final agreement to take over the technical leadership of the Portugal national team, succeeding the Spaniard Roberto Martinez.
The Portugal national team exited the World Cup competitions after losing to Spain with a clean goal in the round of 16.
The newspaper added that the Portuguese coach, aged 71, will be linked to a contract extending until 2030, in a step aimed at building a clear technical identity for the Portugal national team.
It indicated that Jesus plans to rely on an attacking style with the Portugal national team, while making some adjustments to the tactical formation that the team relied on in the past period.
It also clarified that the new coach will benefit from his previous knowledge of a large number of the national team players, after having previously coached 11 players from the squad that participated in the World Cup, in addition to João Palhinha.
The newspaper concluded that Jesus will officially begin his mission during the next international break, in preparation for competing in the UEFA Nations League.
