Imam Ashour continued to write his name in the records of the 2026 World Cup, after putting Al Ahly's name in a new chapter in the book of Egyptian football history.
Imam Ashour scored the first goal in the match between Egypt and Australia, held on Friday evening in Dallas, USA, in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.

According to statistics published by Spanish statistics expert "Mister Chip", Ashour became the third player active in the Egyptian league to score a goal in the knockout stages in World Cup history.
The list included only 3 names throughout the history of the tournament, starting in the 1934 edition when Abdel Rahman Fawzi, a player for Al-Masry at the time, scored a brace against Hungary.
Then came Nigerian Emmanuel Amunike, a player for Zamalek at the time, to score against Italy in the 1994 World Cup, before Imam Ashour, a player for Al Ahly, joined them with his goal against Australia during the 2026 World Cup.
The goal by Al Ahly's midfield star against the Australian net represents a break in a long drought that lasted 32 years, as no local player from Egyptian league clubs had managed to leave their scoring mark in the World Cup knockout stage.
