Discussions about the strictness of Moroccan coach Hossam Amouta, Al-Ahly's technical director, have resurfaced following statements by Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed, a former Al-Ahly player now with El Mokawloon, who revealed details of his conflict with the Moroccan coach that led to his departure from the Red Castle.
Omar Kamal recounted the incident's background during an appearance on DMC channel, noting that the crisis began during a training session when players were divided into three teams.
He said the assistant coach instructed him to wear the "purple" jersey, before the technical staff decided to redivide the teams due to a shortage in one group, leaving him in another squad wearing green jerseys.
He explained: "A message was sent to the players' group specifying the gathering time, and we were informed that Amouta wanted to see all players on the field to determine each player's fate. During the first week, things went well for me, but in the second week, during a training session involving team divisions, Hisham, the assistant coach, told me I was part of the team wearing the purple jersey."
He added: "Later, it became clear that the team wearing green jerseys was short a player, so they started calling out players' names, and I found myself assigned to the green-jersey team. At that point, I informed the assistant coach that he had previously told me I would wear the purple jersey. However, I was completely surprised by Amouta's unexpected reaction. Amouta told me I wasn't focusing during training, but in an extremely harsh manner. I asked him not to speak to me that way. Afterwards, the assistant coach spoke to me and apologized for the situation, but I told him he should have clarified what happened to Amouta."
Omar Kamal left Al-Ahly during the current summer transfer window after being excluded from the technical staff's plans under Amouta, joining El Mokawloon on a free transfer.
A Previous Crisis with Jordan's Top Scorer
Omar Kamal's incident was not the first time Amouta engaged in a public dispute with one of his players; during the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, a famous crisis occurred between the Moroccan coach and Hamza Al-Dardour, Jordan's all-time top scorer.
During Jordan's Round of 16 match against Iraq, which ended in a 3-2 victory for Jordan, Al-Dardour, who was on the bench, got into an altercation with Amouta on the touchline during the final minutes of the game.
The referee showed Al-Dardour a red card despite him not participating in the match, before the Jordanian Football Association announced the player's exclusion from the national team camp, stating in a press release that the player had "violated team instructions."
Footage of the incident showed several Jordanian national team players intervening to restrain Al-Dardour following the confrontation with Amouta.
