Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi honored the Egyptian national football team players on Saturday after their participation in the 2026 World Cup competitions, currently held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
President Sisi awarded the team players and members of the technical and administrative staff (the Order of Merit) and honorary medals, in appreciation of what they presented in the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The Egyptian national team presented a distinguished path in the current edition of the World Cup, whether in the group stage or the knockout stages, as the "Pharaohs" team was in the seventh group.
The Egyptian national team collected five points to occupy second place, after winning against the New Zealand team by three goals to one, and drawing with the Belgian and Iranian teams by one goal each.
The Egyptian national team faced its Australian counterpart in the round of 32, surpassing the Asian team on penalties with a score of 4-2, after the match ended in regular and extra time with a 1-1 draw.
In the round of 16, the Egyptian national team almost achieved the surprise after leading by two goals against the Argentine national team, but the "Tango" team turned the result around to win by three goals to two.
This edition is considered distinguished for the Egyptian national team, after achieving the first win in the history of its World Cup participations after three previous participations, in addition to scoring eight goals for the first time, and also reaching the knockout stages.
