Hossam Hassan, the technical director of the Egyptian national team, revealed a crisis that was threatening the Pharaohs in the World Cup during one of the matches.
Hossam Hassan said via On Sport: "Haitham Hassan's papers were not complete, and I was not aware of that. I was going to field him in one of the matches before resolving the crisis, and if that had happened, we would have faced a big problem".
He added, "I used to see our brothers and sons in Palestine standing by the Egyptian national team in all matches, and rejoicing with us despite the difficult circumstances they live in, amid the rubble and destruction. This scene caught my attention a lot".
He concluded his statements, "After the match against Australia, I said if we win, I will salute these people and give them part of their moral right. Indeed, I saw the Palestinian flag on one of the screens, so I returned to raise it and fulfilled what I pledged".
Hossam Hassan raised the Palestinian flag during the celebration of the victory over Australia and advancing past the round of 32 in the World Cup.
Hossam Hassan took over the coaching of the Egyptian national team in February 2024 and began his journey with the Egyptian national team in March with a match against New Zealand.
Since then, the Brigadier has led the Egyptian national team in 35 matches, winning 19, drawing 10, and losing 5.
The Egyptian national team finished second in the seventh group with 5 points, behind the Belgian national team by a point difference.
In the group stage, the Egyptian national team drew against Belgium and Iran, and won against New Zealand 3-1.
While the Pharaohs achieved victory against Australia in the round of 32 on penalties, before losing to the defending champions Argentina in the round of 16.
