Marc Cucurella, the Spanish national team player, mocked the Argentine national team star Lionel Messi after what happened between them in yesterday's match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The "MetLife" stadium hosted the World Cup final match between Argentina and Spain, where the latter won with a goal without reply.

The match witnessed the expulsion of the Argentine player, Enzo Fernández, before the end of the original time of the match due to receiving two yellow cards in the encounter.

After Enzo Fernández's expulsion, a controversial scene emerged between Messi and Marc Cucurella where the latter spoke to him while placing his hand over his mouth, which angered the Argentine captain who alerted the referee to what was happening in order to apply the Vinicius law.

Cucurella was asked about the matter, where he replied in statements published by the French network "rmc": "Messi was not satisfied with what I said to him, so he went to talk to the referee, he wanted to expel me and it is clear."

He added: "I did not expect that behavior from him, especially since he is a person who is considered a role model for children, what will they say or learn from him in such situations?"

Cucurella, for his part, did not clarify the reason for placing his hand above his mouth or the content of what he said to Messi in that exciting scene.
