Al-Ittihad Club of Jeddah announced the injury of its player Hamed Al-Ghamdi with a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament.
The club revealed via its account on X that Al-Ghamdi sustained the injury during the friendly match against South African Orlando Pirates as part of its ongoing training camp in the Spanish city of Marbella, in preparation for the new season.
The club explained that the medical staff is currently completing the necessary arrangements to perform the player's surgical operation in the coming days, in preparation for starting his treatment and rehabilitation program.
Al-Ghamdi's injury represents a major blow to the Tigers ahead of the new season, which they will open with a match against Emirati side Al-Jazira on August 11, as part of the qualifying playoff for the AFC Champions League Elite.
It is noted that the team will also be without the services of another player at the start of the season due to injury, Ahmed Sharahili, who underwent surgery after suffering a tear in the peroneus longus tendon in his left ankle.
Al-Ghamdi wore the Tigers' jersey for a season and a half on loan from Al-Ettifaq Club, before the player transferred permanently to the Jeddah club in the summer of 2025 under a contract that runs until 2030.
During his career with Al-Ittihad Jeddah, Al-Ghamdi played 34 matches, scored one goal, and provided one assist.
In the past season, Al-Ghamdi played 11 matches across various competitions without any goal contributions, whether by scoring or assisting.
