Egypt's under-18 women's basketball team secured its qualification to the finals of the AfroBasket 2026 tournament, scheduled to be held in Côte d'Ivoire, after reaching the final of the fifth zone qualifiers tournament, currently held at Hall No. 2 at Cairo International Stadium.
The national team defeated its Tanzanian counterpart 74-46 in the match that took place a short while ago in the semi-final round, securing the Pharaohs the first qualification ticket to the AfroBasket finals, where the top two teams from the fifth zone qualifiers advance.
Egypt's team had ended the first period leading 19-15, before widening the gap in the second period, ending the first half ahead 41-28.
In the third period, the women's basketball youth team continued its lead to make the score 59-43, before settling the match in the fourth and final period 74-46.
The national team awaits the winner of the Rwanda-Kenya match to face it in the final of the fifth zone qualifiers, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday.
The team's roster includes: Malak Al-Hamli, Yasmine Al-Gamal, Hana Al-Baz, Malak Al-Azab, Maryam Hazem, Layla Hossam, Sidra Haitham, Judy Walid, Hania Nasser, Judy Nizar, Sidra Shalaby, and Fatima Mohamed.
The technical staff consists of: Tarek Khairy as technical director, Mustafa Fikry as general coach, Reem Mousa as coach, Ali Abari as performance analyst, Fatima Mahmoud as doctor, and Doaa Labib as administrative director.
