Barcelona continues to stick to its plan to sign the Argentine Julián Álvarez, striker for Atlético Madrid, during the current summer transfer window.
Barcelona is well aware that the transfer process will not be easy given Atlético Madrid’s outright refusal to consider selling the player.
“Mundo Deportivo” reported that Barcelona realizes Álvarez’s desire and stance carry weight and influence in the negotiations, and the club is counting on that.
The report added that Álvarez’s position remains unchanged: he wants to leave Atlético Madrid, with whom he is under contract until 2030, in order to join Barcelona.
In this context, Barcelona is relying on the Argentine star continuing to hold firm to his desire to move to the Catalan club.
His scheduled return for pre-season training with his club (Atlético Madrid) has been set for next Monday, August 10.
Barcelona believes the deal is still possible, but it may take a long time and could stretch into the final two weeks of August.
Barcelona continues to bet on Julián Álvarez because the player has “taken a clear stance” in favor of the Catalan club, after publicly demanding to be sold during the World Cup, in addition to the Argentine striker being Hansi Flick’s preferred target.
Barcelona sees no other options available in the transfer market except Haaland and Harry Kane, but signing either of them is currently impossible for the Catalan club.
Although there are other striker names, they are of a lower level, and signing them would still require large sums of money.
For this reason, Barcelona wants to exhaust all its options to sign Julián Álvarez, as the player’s expressed desire, together with Flick’s wish to sign him, are among the arguments pushing the club to defend this option.
