International referee Amin Omar revealed the penalty he did not award in one of the Egyptian League matches, after which he faced a major backlash from fans in Egypt that forced him to turn off his phone for two months.
Amin Omar had stated in a television interview after returning from the World Cup, revealing his conversation with the referee of the Egypt-Argentina match, that he was forced to turn off his phone for two months after not awarding a penalty in one of the Egyptian League matches.
Omar said during statements on the podcast "Al-Hiwar Kabir": "It was the Zamalek vs. Arab Contractors match in the 2023-2024 season, and I saw the handball by the Arab Contractors player as unconvincing to me and it was also outside the penalty area, and I was called by VAR referee Mohamed Adel at the time".
He added: "I faced a major attack from Zamalek fans after the match because of this penalty".
Regarding rumors about his affiliation with Al-Ahly Club, he clarified: "All of that is just talk; if I were a referee who officiates based on affiliation, I would not have been called to manage World Cup matches and major games in big tournaments. I work and strive for myself, not out of affiliation with any club".

He concluded: "I admit that mistakes certainly happen, but they are ordinary mistakes, as happens all over the world; I am human, not a machine".
