Press reports revealed that Portuguese star João Cancelo has joined the Saudi Al-Hilal camp after the end of his loan spell at Spanish Barcelona.
Until his permanent transfer to Barcelona is completed, Cancelo will continue to honor his contract with Al-Hilal club, which runs until the summer of 2027.
Cancelo returns to Saudi Al-Hilal
According to the Catalan newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," the Barcelona right-back is scheduled to join the Saudi team's training camp in preparation for the new season on July 29, coinciding with arrangements for his return to Barcelona.
Jorge Mendes, Cancelo's agent, is currently working on returning him to Barcelona, while the Al-Hilal team, led by Simone Inzaghi, is currently in Austria for its preparatory training camp for the new season until August 3.
For his part, German coach Hans Flick wants the Portuguese player to be available for the preparatory tour in England, but he realizes that this process, which he considers a priority, requires time.
In the past 2025/2026 season, Cancelo was a regular starter with the Catalan team, and the player also expressed his desire to return to "Camp Nou," where he aspires to continue wearing the Barcelona shirt.
The situation is being resolved gradually, and Al-Hilal Saudi Club has announced its readiness to listen to offers for João Cancelo and will not obstruct his sale during the current summer transfer window.
Al-Hilal asked his agent, Jorge Mendes, to secure a suitable offer from Barcelona, given that the player has one year left on his contract, while the club has a ready replacement, Mohamed Mahrazi, who officially joined from Al-Taawoun.
