Argentine star Julián Álvarez is going through a difficult period at Atlético Madrid, after being greeted with boos from his club's fans before the Villarreal match in the second round of La Liga.
The capital club's supporters booed the Argentine international as soon as his image appeared on the stadium screen, signaling their anger towards him following his recent stance regarding the club.
The 26-year-old joined Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024 from Manchester City; although the player has a contract extending until the summer of 2030, the Argentine striker desires to leave.
Earlier, European media reports indicated that FC Barcelona is interested in signing Álvarez, while the player's name has also been linked with a move to neighbors Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid announced its refusal to allow Álvarez to depart for any rival club within La Liga; however, Barcelona remains keen on acquiring Álvarez this summer to bolster its attacking line.
According to the global website "Transfermarkt," Álvarez boasts impressive statistics wearing the Atlético Madrid jersey, having scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists across 107 matches.
Álvarez missed his team's first match against Málaga, then appeared on the bench for the second encounter against Villarreal, coming on as a substitute in the 66th minute.
Conversely, the website "Foot Mercato" revealed a surprise concerning Atlético Madrid's management: they would not oppose selling the player if an offer worth €150 million arrives.
At this point, Arsenal entered the race, seeking to recruit the player this summer to strengthen their attack, especially as the Gunners aim to reinforce their squad in hopes of retaining the Premier League title and competing for the UEFA Champions League after reaching last season's final.
The London club hopes to exploit the deteriorating relationship between the player and Atlético Madrid's fans to secure the deal, particularly since the "Rojiblancos" management does not object to selling the Argentine to a club outside La Liga at the specified price.
The London club may take swift action, especially following comments by Diego Simeone, Atlético Madrid's head coach, regarding Álvarez's situation. Simeone recently stated: "We must be united if Atlético Madrid wants to win titles."

According to "Transfermarkt," Álvarez's market value is estimated at €120 million; therefore, the Spanish club will not agree to let him go for less than this amount, given the level of performance he delivers.
According to European media reports, Álvarez prefers joining Barcelona, which leads him to await moves from the Catalan club rather than moving to Arsenal and returning to the English Premier League environment.
