The Saudi Arabian national team secured a spot in the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup (Gulf 27) after defeating their counterpart, the Qatari national team, 3-2 on penalty kicks, in the match held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.
A goalless draw prevailed during regular time and extra time, forcing both teams to resort to penalty shootouts to determine the winner.
Qatar's striker Al-Moez Ali missed the first penalty for his team, sending the ball strangely over the crossbar, before Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais saved the third penalty taken by Jasim Gaber.
Mahmoud Abunada, Qatar's goalkeeper, successfully saved Saudi Arabia's third penalty, taken by defender Hassan Tambakti, but there was an immediate response from Mohammed Al-Owais, who saved the penalty taken by Qatari player Boualem Khoukhi.
Mahmoud Abunada kept Qatar's hopes alive by saving the fourth penalty from Firas Al-Buraikan, but Mukhtar Ali successfully converted the fifth penalty, leading the Green Falcons to the Arabian Gulf Cup final.
