Saudi Neom announced Ahmed Hegazi's assumption of the position of assistant sports director at the club.
Neom revealed in its official announcement: "After years of giving on the green rectangle, a new chapter in the career of a captain who concluded his journey with the Neom logo."
The Saudi club added, "With him, it launches with greater passion and ambition, Ahmed Hegazi as assistant sports director at Neom Club."
Neom continued, "Welcome back, Captain Ahmed, to your home once again, and our wishes for success in your new mission."
Egyptian national team defender Ahmed Hegazi officially announced his retirement from football on Saturday.
Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper had revealed that this step comes as part of Neom's strategy aimed at attracting technical and administrative competencies capable of contributing to building a professional system that keeps pace with the club's ambitions in the coming phase, especially after its presence in the Saudi Professional League, and in Neom Club for the second year.
Hegazi decided to end his football career at the age of 35, after the end of his contract with Saudi Neom Club.
Hegazi, 35, joined Neom two seasons ago on a contract that runs until June 2026.
The Egyptian international led his team to qualify from the Second Division League to the Premier League last season.
The team finished the 2025-2026 season of the Saudi League in eighth place.
Hegazi began his career with Ismaily Club in 2009, from which he joined Italian Fiorentina and then Brescia before returning to Egypt and joining Al-Ahly in 2015.
Hegazi turned professional again and joined the ranks of English West Bromwich Albion in 2018, from which he moved to Saudi Al-Ittihad Jeddah.
Before ending his career with Neom Club.
With the Egyptian national team, Hegazi participated in 88 international matches and scored two goals, and also participated with the Pharaohs in the 2018 World Cup.
