The Spanish Football Federation announced today that one of the players has left the Spain national team camp after sustaining an injury, as the world champions compete in the UEFA Nations League.
Spain secured a well-deserved and emphatic victory over Croatia by four goals to one yesterday, Tuesday, during the second matchday of the group stage of the UEFA Nations League.
In an official statement, the Spanish Federation reported that Atlético Madrid player Alex Grimaldo has left the Spain national team camp, as the left-back felt discomfort in his left thigh during warm-ups before his country's match against Croatia.
The statement added that following medical examinations undergone by Grimaldo, it was decided to exclude him from the Spain squad as a precautionary measure to avoid worsening the injury.
The statement noted that current Real Betis player and former Real Madrid player Fran García will join the national team in the coming hours and will replace Grimaldo.
Spain will face Czechia on October 3rd, during the third matchday of the UEFA Nations League, before meeting Croatia again on the 6th of the same month in the fourth matchday of the competition.
Grimaldo is the second player to leave the Spain national team camp, days after Barcelona player Eric García was excluded due to a minor injury as well.
