African Cup of Nations qualifiers – Cameroon and Congo draw; late victory for Ivory Coast against Somalia

Cameroon drew 1-1 with hosts Congo in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Giltani Stalgout Bantsil scored to put Congo ahead in the 24th minute.

In the second half, Cameroon equalized through an own goal by Congo goalkeeper Melvin Zinga.

With this result, Cameroon maintained their lead in the group with 4 points, while Congo remained in fourth place with a single point.

In another match, Côte d'Ivoire secured a 2-0 away victory against Somalia in a game played in Ghana's capital, Accra.

Côte d'Ivoire's goals came late in the match.

Coventry City winger Yan Gboho opened the scoring for his national team in the 89th minute, before young Newcastle winger Bazoumana Touré added the second goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

As a result, Côte d'Ivoire shares the top spot in Group C with 6 points, level with Gambia.

Meanwhile, Somalia remains on zero points alongside Ghana, who lost both their matches against Côte d'Ivoire and Gambia.

In other matches, Gabon defeated Niger 2-0, securing their first win in the qualifiers after losing their opening match against Morocco.

Mali also won 1-0 away against Liberia in a match that saw Aloy Dieng, formerly of Al Ahly and currently at Valencia, participate.
