3 talents preparing to feature for South Africa against Egypt

Pitso Mosimane, the head coach of the South African national team, is preparing to field new players in his lineup against Egypt during the friendly match between the two teams.

South Africa will face host nation Egypt at 9:00 PM tomorrow, Sunday, at Cairo Stadium, in a friendly match that concludes both teams' current international window.

The South African newspaper The Citizen reported that Pitso Mosimane may give some other players in his 30-man squad an opportunity when facing Egypt.

It noted that Mosimane will be forced to rely on new elements due to injuries sustained by the duo, Bathusi Aubaas and Teboho Mokoena, who is known for his powerful shots from outside the penalty area.

It clarified that there are more than seven players candidates to feature in South Africa's lineup against Egypt, but three names stand out specifically, as follows:

Brooklyn Bongombola

Durban City midfielder Bongombola made his debut for the South African national team just 12 minutes into last Wednesday's match against Eritrea in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mosimane was forced to make the change after Aubaas left the field injured, but the 27-year-old Bongombola appeared completely comfortable on the pitch, distributing passes skillfully and impressing teammate Sphelelulo Sithole.

Bosolo Dithigan

Bosolo Dithigan's impressive performance with Chicago Fire this season led to his call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad, but it was not enough for the 22-year-old player to get an opportunity to play in the matches against Guinea and Eritrea.

Dithigan faces stiff competition for the winger position from prominent players such as Oswin Appollis, Thapelo Maseko, and Luther Singh, but he could get a chance to showcase his abilities against Egypt, even if it comes through a substitute appearance.

Goalkeeper Sibo Chaine

Ronwen Williams, Sundowns' goalkeeper, was in top form as usual against Guinea in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, but the South African captain suffered a dip in performance against Eritrea, committing two unintentional errors within five minutes.

The newspaper added that Mosimane will need to ensure there is a reliable backup in case the 34-year-old Williams gets injured or his form declines.

Chaine, aged 29, has only played four matches for South Africa, so the match against Egypt would certainly be an ideal opportunity to give the player, whom Mosimane described as one of his "leaders," a real chance.

Pitso Mosimane began his tenure with the South African national team by winning against Guinea 2-1 and against Eritrea 5-0, in the first and second rounds of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
