Press reports have revealed that the Premier League is preparing strict sanctions against Manchester City should the club continue to escalate the situation.
Manchester City had officially announced its appeal against the ruling of the Premier League's independent commission regarding the disciplinary case concerning allegations of breaching the competition's financial rules.
The club reaffirmed its stance, stating that the decision contained clear and fundamental errors in law, principles, or facts, and considered the finding of guilt for 115 breaches of the Premier League's financial and legal rules to be illogical.
Strict sanctions await Manchester City
Following these developments, English journalist Duncan Castles reported that Manchester City could face a series of severe sanctions from the Football Association if the club continues to escalate its dispute with the Premier League.
The prominent journalist clarified on his "X" platform account: "Manchester City's last line of defense was an attempt submitted to the independent panel examining the club's breaches, but it was rejected as being fabricated after the fact."
He added: "It was not mentioned at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and it appears to contradict the testimony given by both the CEO of Etihad Airways and City director Simon Pearce before CAS."
He continued: "Contradictions in Manchester City's defensive attempts are evident in the email evidence, which forms a core part of the 'smoking gun' defense the Sky Blues promised to present since 2020."
Regarding the strict sanctions Manchester City may face if it continues escalating the conflict with the Premier League, they could include...
- Expulsion from the Premier League.
- Refusal by the English Football League (EFL) to admit Manchester City into any of its divisions.
- Dismissal of the club's owners, directors, and executive officers.
