Egypt secured a resounding victory against hosts South Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The Egyptian national team defeated host South Sudan by five goals to nil, in the match that took place between the two teams this evening, Tuesday, at Juba Stadium, as part of the second round of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Today's match saw Mostafa Ziko score the first goal, while Omar Marmoush scored the second and fourth goals. The third goal was scored by Ibrahim Adel, and Hamza Abdel Karim netted the fifth goal.
The Pharaoh of the Premier League
Omar Marmoush regained his scoring touch in today's match, having not scored any goals since his goal for Manchester City against Crystal Palace on May 13 last year.
Prior to today's encounter as well, Marmoush had not scored in his last 8 matches with the Egyptian national team, nor in 3 matches at the end of last season's competitions with Manchester City, or during his first 5 matches with Tottenham this season.
Omar Marmoush also returned to scoring internationally for the first time since his goal with the Egyptian national team in the friendly match against Saudi Arabia on March 27 last year, at Al-Inmaa Stadium in Jeddah.
Abdel Karim's Mark
As for Hamza Abdel Karim, the striker for Spanish club Barcelona, he succeeded in scoring his first goal with the Egyptian national team in today's match, during his eighth international appearance, specifically four months after wearing the Pharaohs' shirt for the first time.
Furthermore, today's goal by Hamza Abdel Karim is the first in his professional career overall, as all his previous goals were in youth and junior matches, and friendlies with the first team.
Biggest Victories
In a related context, today's victory is the biggest for the Egyptian national team, led by coach Hossam Hassan, since the win against Djibouti by a score of 6-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which occurred on November 16, 2023.
The Egypt vs. South Sudan match is also the third biggest victory in Hossam Hassan's coaching career, following his wins with Zamalek Club against Bani Obeid (6-0) and Tala'ea El Gaish (6-1).
