Media personality Ahmed Shobier revealed the behind-the-scenes details of Imam Ashour, the midfielder for Al Ahly's first football team, signing the contract to extend his deal with the Red Fortress, following the official announcement in the early hours of this Wednesday morning.
Shobier said in a statement via his radio program: "The news that surprised Al Ahly fans is Imam Ashour's signing of a contract extension with the club until 2030, and I will reveal what happened behind the scenes."
He continued: "Al Ahly officials spoke with Imam Ashour and told him that he had the opportunity until today to give them his final decision: either we amend the contracts and renew until 2030, or you continue with your current salary until the end of your contract in two years. They agreed on a meeting that took place yesterday."

He added: "Indeed, last night, Dr. Essam Sraj held a meeting with Imam Ashour, his father, and his agent Mohamed Kofta. The talk was clear: Al Ahly offered the player 25 million pounds per season, plus 10 million (bonus), in addition to advertising deals, and Imam is one of the players who is offered many advertising deals."
He continued: "The discussion continued between the two parties. In the end, Imam Ashour agreed. Dr. Essam Sraj had brought the contracts with him, and the nice thing is that Al Ahly club announced it immediately upon signing and settled the matter."
He concluded: "The current issue is that Imam Ashour wants to participate with the team, but head coach Hussein Amouta is asking him to wait and be patient until he is sure of his physical readiness through undergoing a rehabilitation program, and the player (will be eager to play)."
