The English newspaper "Daily Mail" published a message from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, which he addressed to the president of the Argentine federation after the 2026 World Cup final.
Last Sunday evening witnessed the final of the World Cup tournament between Argentina and Spain, where the latter won with a goal without reply, scored by Ferran Torres.
Via his personal Instagram account, Infantino posted a message to Argentina after losing the final (to view the details from here), but he did not stop there, according to the English newspaper "Daily Mail".
The newspaper said that Infantino's message to the Argentine Football Association was unprofessional, amid his praise for the playing style of Lionel Messi's squad despite facing criticism throughout the tournament due to the violence that dominated them.
It explained that while congratulatory messages are a customary tradition after the World Cup, as the three medal-winning teams have already received a message from Infantino, his choice of words in the leaked message raises doubts.
It reported that the message was leaked by Argentine media outlets and published by the newspaper itself after verifying it, and it was addressed to the president of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio Tapia.
Infantino said in his message: "Your Excellency the President, Argentina won the silver medal in the 2026 World Cup after an exciting match against Spain on Sunday, July 19, at the magnificent New York New Jersey Stadium. I would like to renew my warmest congratulations on this new important achievement for Argentine football."
He added: "The 2026 World Cup tournament will remain immortal in memory, as an unforgettable celebration of football, distinguished by wonderful matches and the emergence of a dawn of new talents, in addition to the presence of legends of the game, besides the exceptional atmosphere witnessed in the stadiums packed with fans."
He continued: "The remarkable performance of the Argentine national team also played a decisive role in making that edition an exceptional event that succeeded in capturing the hearts of millions of football fans around the world."
He went on: "Please convey my sincere personal congratulations to everyone who contributed to that wonderful achievement, the players, coach Lionel Scaloni, the technical and medical staff, as well as the massive crowds that accompanied the team and supported it throughout the tournament."
He stressed: "Those victories represent the results of hard work, professionalism, attention to the smallest details, in addition to passion, commitment, and love for this wonderful sport; all of this bodes well for a bright future that will undoubtedly pave the way for more wonderful successes for Argentine football."
He concluded: "I wish you, my dear Mr. President, complete success in the upcoming tournaments. I hope to see you soon, with my sincere friendship."
