Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football, FIFA, was keen to direct a message to the Argentina national team after its loss in the final of the 2026 World Cup edition on Sunday evening.
Argentina lost to Spain in the final of the FIFA World Cup, with one unanswered goal at "MetLife" Stadium, scored by player Ferran Torres after resorting to extra time.
Infantino wrote via his personal account on Instagram: "What an amazing World Cup tournament for Argentina, a historic comeback and fighting spirit that succeeded in inspiring millions, gave football fans around the world unforgettable moments".
He added: "Also, returning to the World Cup final after winning the championship in the previous edition, 2022, is evidence of your continuous excellence, thank you for making that edition of the World Cup very special, thank you for competing with this great passion until the end".
