Italian press reports confirmed that the Italian Federation is preparing to announce the name of the national team coach after both Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola refused to take on the task.
"Sky Sport Italia" reports confirmed that former Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo is expected to take on the task of coaching his country under a contract that extends until the 2030 World Cup finals.
The Italian national team is about to sign a new coach for the first time since Gennaro Gattuso's resignation after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup competitions.
The Italian Federation may issue the official announcement before the end of the week, and Pirlo's termination of his contract with United FC, a competitor in the UAE Professional League, is not expected to pose a major obstacle to coaching the Azzurri.

Andrea Pirlo's contract with the Italian national team is expected to extend until the end of the 2030 World Cup, and he will receive an annual salary of 1.5 million euros, which is much less than what Ancelotti, Guardiola, Mancini or Conte would have received.
Pirlo is one of the members of Italy's golden generation in 2006 that won the World Cup, and he won the Italian Cup during his only season with Juventus before taking over the coaching of Turkish club Karagümrük for a year, then moving to coach Sampdoria in the Italian second division.
Pirlo has a strong relationship with Maldini and Leonardo, his former teammates at Milan, and this is one of the main reasons that prompted them to appoint him as coach of the Italian national team, as they believe he will help them implement their ideas regarding renewing youth academies and building a clear identity for the team based on technical skills.
