Foreign press reports revealed that Jes Thorup, the former technical director of Al-Ahly Club, is close to returning to coaching through a station at one of the European teams.
The transfer of Nicky Hayen, the technical director of Belgian Genk, to coach the English Burnley team opened the door to the possibility of Jes Thorup returning to coaching through a station where he had previously worked.
Burnley English Club officially announced its contract with Nicky Hayen to coach the team, after its relegation to the Championship League, making Jes Thorup's name at the top of the candidates to lead the Belgian Genk team.
Genk Club expressed its surprise at Nicky Hayen's departure from coaching the team one month before the start of the new season in Belgium, as one of the club's officials said in press statements: "Clearly this was not what we expected, but we look to the future with confidence".
The Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad mentioned that Jes Thorup's name was put forward as a potential successor to Hayen, after the Danish coach had previously taken charge of Genk for a brief period in 2020, but after 5 matches in the league and collecting 11 points out of 15, he received an offer from Copenhagen Club and left Genk.
After that, Thorup coached the German Augsburg Club for two seasons, and until last month, the former coach of Gent Club was working at Al-Ahly Club, but he became a free agent after the contract between the two parties was mutually terminated.
