Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta, the technical director of Al-Ahly Club, was keen to give Karim Fouad the opportunity in the left-back position during the Red Team's preparation camp before the start of the new season, after determining his view on the available options in this position.
A source revealed to Yalla Koura the reason behind Amouta's reliance on Karim Fouad in the left-back position, especially in local friendly matches before traveling to Spain.
The source said that Youssef Belamri recently joined Al-Ahly's ranks with the return of the internationals, and thus missed the last two friendly matches just before the trip.
He added that Karim El-Debis also got the opportunity, as most of Al-Ahly's friendly matches extended to 3 and 4 halves rather than two.
He pointed out that the Moroccan technical director preferred Ahmed Eid's participation for a long time in the right-back position due to his desire to evaluate the player, which increased the difficulty of Karim Fouad getting the opportunity in his original position.
He continued: "Karim El-Debis did not participate in yesterday evening's friendly match due to a slight muscle strain, and he did not reach the required level."
He concluded: "Koka did not participate in this position except for a very short time, as Amouta sees his best employment in midfield as a substitute for Marwan Attia."
A source had confirmed to Yalla Koura Al-Ahly's desire to sign a local deal in this position, but the current arrangement according to Amouta's vision places Karim El-Debis at the forefront of candidates to lead the left flank, then Karim Fouad, and finally Ahmed Nabil Koka as a third option.
