A source inside Zamalek Club revealed that Alexandre Santos, the coach of the Moroccan Royal Army Club, is considered one of the most prominent candidates to become the head of the technical staff at the White Castle in the next season, although he completely denied having signed with him already.
Zamalek Club has started discussing some resumes of foreign coaches to take over the team's training in the next season, despite not having decided the position of Moatamed Gamal, who led the team to win the Egyptian League title in the 2025-2026 season.
Santos is the most prominent candidate
A source at Zamalek Club told Yalla Kora: "Alexandre Santos has not signed contracts to coach Zamalek yet, but he is considered one of the most prominent candidates to take over the team's technical leadership."
The Portuguese Santos, 49 years old, took over coaching the Moroccan Royal Army since the middle of the 2024-2025 season and was able to lead the team to the African Champions League final before losing to Sundowns.
Santos also has a career in the African continent that began in 2021, and he was able with Angola's Petro Atletico to find the way to the podiums before moving to Tunisia's Sfaxien, and then to the Royal Army.
Meeting with Moatamed Gamal
The same source explained during his statements to Yalla Kora: "There is an anticipated meeting with Moatamed Gamal within hours to decide his fate, and we will make the best decision for him and Zamalek Club."
There is a division within Zamalek Club regarding the fate of Moatamed Gamal, as some support his stay, while others believe he should not continue in the position of the head coach.
Moatamed Gamal led Zamalek Club to win the Egyptian League title last season, but he lost the African Confederation Cup title to Algeria's USM Alger, while Santos lost the African Champions League final with the Royal Army this season to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.
