Mohamed Wahbi, the head coach of the Moroccan national team, revealed that he was not surprised by Canada's level in the match against the Atlas Lions.
The Moroccan national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Canada 3-0 in the round of 16.
Mohamed Wahbi said after the match: "We are very happy. It's a World Cup match, and these are tough matches against teams fighting for survival. We reacted very well in the second half, especially in second balls and duels."
He added, "I must admit that Canada was impressive and played a great match. It wasn't surprising for us, but in the second half, we managed to exploit the spaces they left, and that was the key to victory."
Morocco defeated Canada, one of the host countries along with the USA and Mexico, to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the second consecutive time.
The Moroccan national team will meet the winner of the France vs. Paraguay match in the quarter-finals.
Morocco became the first African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals twice in a row.
Morocco's three goals were scored by Azzedine Ounahi with two goals, and a goal by Sofiane Rahimi in injury time.
