It has become difficult for Egyptian international Haitham Hassan, winger of Spanish Real Oviedo, to transfer to the ranks of French Marseille during the current summer transfer window.
Haitham Hassan was among the candidates to join Marseille before the new season in order to bolster the right-wing position.
The French newspaper L'Équipe reported that Marseille's contracting department had made initial contacts with Egyptian international Haitham Hassan to study the possibility of signing him.
It added that the salary cap policy led Marseille to back away from signing Haitham Hassan.
The same newspaper clarified that French club officials confirmed they cannot offer new players a salary exceeding 100,000 euros per month.
The club may agree to exceed this cap for only two or three players considered exceptional cases; even then, the proposed salary is unlikely to exceed 150,000 euros per month.
L'Équipe noted that Marseille's new salary policy has made completing a deal for Haitham Hassan more difficult.
Olympique Marseille must now focus on signing players whose financial value aligns with the club's capabilities, such as free agents, loans with limited salary coverage, young talents, or low-cost deals.
Haitham Hassan had drawn attention at the 2026 World Cup when he featured for the Egyptian national team thanks to his skill and technical abilities.
