Walid Salah El-Din, the former football director of Al-Ahly Club, revealed the reasons behind the decline in the first team's performance during the current 2026–2027 season.
Despite Al-Ahly's good results so far in the league (4 wins and 1 draw), there is widespread dissatisfaction with the players' performance and level under the leadership of Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta.
Salah El-Din stated in remarks to ON Sport TV: "Al-Ahly, Pyramids, and Zamalek delivered their worst performances in the fifth round; all three teams showed extremely poor displays, yet they managed to win thanks to the players' experience."
He added: "Al-Ahly's mistakes and problems lie in very poor attack preparation, a lack of cohesion and harmony among the players, and the team's failure to maintain a consistent lineup."
He continued: "Al-Ahly has not established itself as a cohesive team; what makes the team appear good is the brilliance of individual players. For instance, you see Bencharki shining in one match, Marwan Attia in another, and likewise Zizo."
The Red Devils had previously defeated Sharqia Enppi (3–2), ZED (2–0), and Smouha (1–0), before stumbling against Arab Contractors (1–1).
Al-Ahly quickly returned to winning ways in the fifth round by defeating Abu Qir Fertilizers (2–0).
