Croatian star Josko Gvardiol has signed a new contract extending his stay for the next five years with English side Manchester City, after shining remarkably during the past seasons.
The sky-blue club announced the extension of Gvardiol’s stay until the summer of 2031, just days after extending the contract of Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov until 2031.

Since joining Manchester City from German side RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, the Croatian international has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe.
The 24-year-old Gvardiol is a top-class defender who has also shown complete mastery of the left-back position.
To date, Gvardiol has made 122 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 13 goals, and has been a key part of Spanish coach Pep Guardiola’s plans.
The Croatian international has won six major trophies with Manchester City: the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FA Community Shield.
In addition, Gvardiol has been a mainstay for the Croatian national team over the past years, making 52 international appearances, including the 2026 World Cup."
What did Gvardiol say after extending his contract?
After signing his new contract, Gvardiol said: “As soon as I learned that City wanted to renew my contract, I immediately felt that this was what I wanted.”
He added: “The City fans have been wonderful with me from day one, and the club provides players with everything they need. It is the best club in the world for any player to be part of.”
He continued: “I have felt a great deal of love and respect throughout the three years I have spent here, and I do not take that for granted.”
He concluded: “The players here are fantastic. We have a world-class, young squad with enormous potential. I truly believe we will achieve a lot of success in the years ahead.”
