Jess Thorup, the new technical director of Belgian Genk, confirmed that he had received good offers from English clubs during the past days, but he rejected them.
The Belgian club Genk announced, this evening, Tuesday, its contract with Thorup, the former technical director of Al-Ahly Club, with a contract for the next 3 seasons, after he left coaching the Reds last month.
Jess Thorup said in statements to the official Genk website: "I received serious offers from clubs in the English First Division League (Championship), but I preferred to return to Genk".
The Danish coach added: "Genk is a big club by all standards, and this is evident from the quality of its players, the capabilities, the infrastructure, and the future ambitions.. I am very excited to work with everyone inside the club and contribute to writing a new chapter of this story".
Jess Thorup spoke about his first period with Genk, which ended quickly in 2020, saying: "The circumstances at that time were not ideal, as we were living through the Corona pandemic period".
He continued: "When I received an offer from Copenhagen Club at that time, it was impossible to reject it at that stage of my career, whether for family or sporting reasons, but now the situation is different".
He added: "Genk Club has witnessed great development in recent years, whether at the level of the sports structure or professionalism, and the new training center will provide the club with very modern facilities that help extract the best from the players".
For his part, Dimitri De Condé, the sports director of Genk, said: "Thorup is a coach who possesses great experience and a clear vision for football.. He knows our club well, understands the nature of the Belgian league, and knows how to achieve titles".
Dimitri De Condé concluded his statements by saying: "We have invested heavily this summer in developing the staff surrounding the team, and with Thorup we get a coach capable of building on this foundation and turning it into results on the pitch".
