Walid Regragui, the former coach of the Moroccan national team, has been linked with taking over the coaching of the Iraqi national team in the coming period to lead the Lions of the Two Rivers in the 2027 Asian Cup competitions, instead of the Australian Graham Arnold.
The interest of the Iraqi Football Association in contracting with Regragui comes after the historic achievement he achieved with the Moroccan national team in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, qualifying to the semi-final round and finishing the World Cup in fourth place.
The "Radio Mars" website reported on Thursday that there are no negotiations between the Iraqi Federation and Regragui to take over the coaching of the Iraqi national team in the 2027 Asian Cup.
He explained that Regragui was proposed as a second option in case the contract of coach Arnold was not renewed, before the Iraqi Federation reached an agreement with the Australian coach to renew his contract with the Iraqi national team.

Press reports stated that the Iraqi Federation had formed a tripartite committee including Federation President Younis Mahmoud and his two deputies, the first Sarmad Abdul-Ilah and the second Muhammad Nasser, to negotiate with Arnold regarding contract renewal.
The contract duration will be 6 months, renewable, starting on the first of August and ending on February 20 of next year, with the Australian coach Arnold's monthly salary being 75 thousand US dollars.
