Al-Ittihad Saudi Club denied the existence of negotiations with the midfield duo in Al-Ahly's ranks, Imam Ashour and Marwan Attia, after their brilliance in the 2026 World Cup alongside the Egyptian national team.
Saudi press reports during the past hours conveyed news about Al-Ittihad club's interest in signing the Egyptian duo to bolster the midfield in the team's ranks before the start of the 2026-2027 season competitions.
Riyad Al-Mazhar, head of the communications and media department at Al-Ittihad Saudi Club, said in his statements to Yalla Koura today, Monday: "Everything said about negotiating with Al-Ahly duo Imam Ashour or Marwan Attia or sending official offers is incorrect."
As for the truth of the interest in the duo or following them in order to consider contracting with them in the future, he said: "Al-Ittihad entering into negotiations or sending offers with the duo depends on the decision of the team's German coach, Benz Wiesing."
Attia and Ashour's brilliance
Imam Ashour appeared with a distinguished performance in the 2026 World Cup and was one of the reasons for the Egyptian national team's qualification to the round of 16 in the competitions, as the best achievement in the history of the Pharaohs' participations in the tournament.
Imam Ashour opened the Egyptian national team's goals in the World Cup against Belgium during the group stage matches, and also scored Egypt's goal in the match against Australia that ended 1-1, after which the Pharaohs advanced via penalties.
Marwan Attia's name shone during the World Cup after playing a key role in the team's matches and delivering an excellent performance, primarily on the defensive level.
Imam Ashour's contract - 28 years old - with Al-Ahly extends until the summer of 2028, and the board of directors seeks to renew his contract in the coming period in order to benefit from his services for the longest possible period.
As for Marwan Attia - 27 years old - his contract with Al-Ahly extends until 2029, after it was renewed in January 2025.
