The International Sports Court "CAS" issued its decision rejecting Zamalek Club's appeal in the AIK Sweden case regarding the crisis of dues for the deal of the former Palestinian striker Omar Faraj.
Omar Faraj had transferred to Zamalek from the ranks of AIK Sweden in a deal totaling 1.1 million dollars, in the summer of 2024, before being loaned out in January 2025 to Degerfors until the end of the season.
Faraj returned to Zamalek in the summer of 2025 after the end of the loan without getting an opportunity to participate, and exploited not receiving his dues to unilaterally terminate his contract in February 2026.
Agreement between Zamalek and AIK Sweden
On September 3, 2024, AIK Sweden and Zamalek signed a final transfer agreement for player Omar Faraj from the Swedish club to Zamalek; the value of the deal was 1.1 million dollars, to be paid in two installments:
First: 550 thousand dollars due no later than June 30, 2025.
Second: 550 thousand dollars due no later than June 30, 2026.
The Sports Court stated that Zamalek did not pay the first installment of 550,000 US dollars within ten days from its due date on June 30, 2025, so the acceleration clause was activated.
The second installment of 550,000 US dollars became due and payable immediately.
Accordingly, the full transfer deal fees amounting to 1,100,000 US dollars, in addition to the interest due as decided by the FIFA Players' Status Chamber, became due from Zamalek to the Swedish team.
Therefore, the Sports Court rejected Zamalek's appeal, and consequently Zamalek is now required to pay the full value of the deal with interest to the Swedish club.
