The English Football Association intends to contact Gianni Infantino to withdraw its support for him in his bid to be re-elected as president of the International Football Association "FIFA".
According to The Athletic newspaper, this move comes after the English Football Association issued a statement on Saturday in which it supports the position of the European Football Association "UEFA" regarding the loss of confidence in Infantino's leadership.
This comes after FIFA President attempted to sell a 21% stake in the commercial operations and event organization of FIFA to an investment fund owned by Joshua Kushner for $4.2 billion (£3.1 billion).
The English FA's statement said: "The time has come for a comprehensive and robust review of FIFA's leadership and governance systems to ensure that the global game is managed transparently, in the interests of all 211 member nations, and with the long-term care and preservation of football at its core".
Infantino, 56, has put forward a project to benefit from the "FIFA Forward Enterprise" (FFE) project, and is trying to stay in his position, but his popularity has declined significantly.
According to the British newspaper "Mirror" earlier, Infantino has become "in a real predicament", while his opponents are said to be preparing candidates to succeed him as president of the international governing body of the game.
