Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation, welcomed the withdrawal of the proposal submitted by the International Federation of Football, which included selling a share of "FIFA" tournaments over the coming years in exchange for financial compensation obtained in advance.
The International Federation of Football "FIFA" revealed the proposal, asking member federations to study the offer, before Gianni Infantino faced a sharp attack from several continental federations, which forced him to withdraw the plan.
The Asian Confederation comments on FIFA's proposal
"The President of the Asian Confederation expressed his aspiration that any initiative that may have an impact on world football be presented and discussed in the future with the continental federations, the Council of the International Federation of Football "FIFA", the member national federations, and all other stakeholders, in a timely manner, transparently and purposefully".
Sulaiman bin Ibrahim said: "The future of world football must always be formulated through proper consultation, collective dialogue, and respect for the approved administrative structures of the game"
He added: "The Asian Football Confederation stands ready to support any initiative that strengthens the unity of the football family, contributes to the continued growth of the game globally, and achieves tangible benefits for all stakeholders".
He continued: "I am proud that all our member federations stood united, and gave the Asian Confederation the confidence to request clarifications on their behalf regarding an issue of paramount importance to the future of global football governance".
He concluded: "I thank it for its patience, solidarity, and unity, and assure it that the Asian Confederation will always continue to work in a way that serves its best interests".
