The board of directors of Al-Ahly Club, headed by Mahmoud El-Khatib, announced the assignment of board member Tarek Kandil to head the football team delegation in Spain.
The Al-Ahly team delegation will fly to Spain next Thursday in preparation for the external preparation camp.
Al-Ahly's preparation camp in Spain will be held during the period from August 6 to 20 of the current month.
The camp will include an anticipated match between Al-Ahly and Barcelona team at Camp Nou stadium on the 19th of the current month.
This comes within the competitions of the Joan Gamper Cup in its 61st edition.
The draw for the Egyptian League competitions will be held on Wednesday, August 5 of the current month.
Al-Ahly will be on a date with a new page in its history when it faces Barcelona on August 19, within the 61st edition of the Joan Gamper Cup tournament, one of the oldest friendly tournaments in European football.
Although it is a friendly tournament, it represents for Barcelona fans an annual celebration of the start of the new season, and it is considered the official event during which the Catalan club presents its team to its fans.
The Joan Gamper Cup tournament was launched in 1966 on the initiative of Enrique Laudet, the president of Barcelona at the time, in honor of the Swiss founder of the club, Joan Gamper, who founded Barcelona in 1899 and was the first to lay the foundations of the club that later turned into one of the largest clubs in the world.
The tournament has continued annually since then, becoming a fixed tradition in Barcelona's agenda before the start of the season.
In its early years, the tournament was held with the participation of four teams in a semi-final and final system and determining the third and fourth places.
But since 1997, Barcelona decided to change the system so that the tournament becomes only one match between the Catalan team and its guest, which is the system that continues until now.
