Mahmoud Taher, the former president of Al Ahly Club, sparked a state of controversy after strong statements during which he spoke about the conditions the club witnessed during his presidency, affirming his belief that the club "is still infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood".

Taher assumed the presidency of Al Ahly Club in the period between 2014 and 2017.

The former president of the Red Castle admitted that the club was infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood, and he feels that this continues until now despite the lack of confirmations on his part.

Taher said in a podcast on the Emirati Al Sharq channel: "There were many incidents that occurred during my term when I used to say that these are not from Al Ahly's fans, such as besieging the team bus and assaulting the technical staff and players". He admitted

He added: "I do not want to say that it was a small group and a hired clique, but in reality it is so".

He continued: "It is enough to say that someone attacked Peseiro in one of the hotels, and in one of the matches the players went to the match via (taxi), and we were unable to get the players and the technical staff out in the team bus and we lost the match at that time".

Taher was asked how he views the Ultras association?, and he replied, saying: "The Ultras are a group of young people whose beginning was as lovers of the club and I had a respectful relationship with them before I became president of Al Ahly".

He continued: "The real Ultras are young people who adore Al Ahly and support it with all their might, but I believe that this Ultras has been infiltrated, and they may not feel that".

Mahmoud Taher was asked again about who infiltrated the Ultras?, and he replied, saying: "In the January events they were infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood, and I knew that".

He continued: "Al Ahly Club itself was infiltrated by the Brotherhood, and although I do not want to confirm this information, I believe that the club is still infiltrated until now by entities such as the Muslim Brotherhood".

Taher concluded his statements: "I am not present now inside Al Ahly, but I feel that the club is still infiltrated at the level of members and I do not believe that one day the matter will reach the board of directors".
