The Ministry of Sports announced the opening of an investigation into a complaint regarding the exclusion of one of the juniors from the tests of Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club because of his name.
The ministry stated in an official statement: "Jawhar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, decided to open an immediate and urgent investigation to verify the validity of what was raised across various media outlets regarding the complaint of one of the parents about the exclusion of her son from the football tests at Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club because of his name, according to what was reported in the media."
The statement added, "The player's mother claimed that the club rejected the player because of his name."
The statement continued, "The Minister of Youth and Sports decided immediately and urgently to verify the matter."
The ministry promised in its statement a severe punishment for the person responsible for the incident if its validity is confirmed.
The statement concluded, "Jawhar Nabil ordered that if the complaint is verified, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will immediately suspend the person responsible for this matter and refer him for an immediate investigation to take legal and disciplinary measures against him in this regard and deprive him of practicing any sports activity in the future."
The tests of Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club for selecting talents began last June.
