Hussein Ammouta, Al-Ahly's head coach, has decided to bring Mohamed El-Shenawy back as the team's goalkeeper ahead of the upcoming international break.
Ammouta relied on Mostafa Shobeir in Al-Ahly's first two matches of this season's Egyptian Premier League.
A source told FilGoal: "Mostafa Shobeir will be Al-Ahly's starting goalkeeper in Thursday's match against Smouha."
The source added: "There is a pre-agreed and specific arrangement for Mostafa Shobeir to play the first three rounds of the league competition."
The source continued: "El-Shenawy will return as Al-Ahly's goalkeeper starting from the fourth match against El-Mokawloon El-Arab and the fifth against Abu Qir Fertilizers as the starter."
He clarified: "This agreement is not about rotation, nor does it relate to whether Mostafa's contract is renewed or not. After the break, Ammouta will hold a meeting with both players to inform them of the roadmap for this position."
Al-Ahly Club announced the renewal of Mostafa Shobeir's contract until the 2029 season.
Mostafa Shobeir has become Al-Ahly's primary goalkeeper since last season, especially after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Former Al-Ahly head coach, the Dane Jess Thorup, relied on a rotation policy between El-Shenawy and Shobeir, before Shobeir finished the season as the starter.
Al-Ahly will play against Smouha on September 3, El-Mokawloon El-Arab on September 9 in the fourth round, and the match against Abu Qir Fertilizers will be the team's last before the international break on September 15.
The international break will run from September 21 to October 6, during which the Egyptian national team will play the first round matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola, then South Sudan, followed by a friendly match currently being arranged.
It is worth noting that Al-Ahly will resume its Egyptian Premier League matches after the international break with a clash against Zamalek on October 11.
