A source inside Al-Ahly Club confirmed that the Red Team did not request participation in the African Champions League in the next season, indicating that the team will prepare normally to participate in the African Confederation Cup.

The source said in statements to Yalla Koura about Al-Ahly's position after the Football Association approved its participation in the Confederation: "We did not request participation in the African Champions League, and we were not a party to this matter from the beginning".

The Egyptian Football Association approved the clubs participating in the African Champions League and African Confederation Cup for the 2026/2027 sports season, with Zamalek and Pyramids participating in the Champions League, while Al-Ahly and ZED will play in the Confederation.

Al-Ahly Club qualified to participate in the Confederation Cup after finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League standings for the 2025-2026 season.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe had confirmed that the Egyptian proposal to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and Confederation during the new season will be discussed.

Motsepe said in a press conference: "If we receive any request, we study it with the higher and specialized bodies of CAF; decisions of this type must obtain approval from the higher bodies, and the matter is studied".
