Newcastle United have moved closer to signing Manchester City midfielder Nico González during the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports reported that Newcastle have made significant progress in negotiations to sign the midfielder from the Sky Blues.
The network clarified that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs, while negotiations with the player are underway to finalize the deal this week.
Nico González began his career with Barcelona's youth team before moving to Valencia on loan.
He joined Porto permanently in the summer of 2023, spending a year and a half with the Portuguese side before moving to Manchester City in January 2025.
He has played 59 matches for the Sky Blues since joining, scoring four goals.
González came on as an 11-minute substitute in the Community Shield match against Arsenal, while he remained on the bench for the first-round match against Bournemouth.
Manchester City won the first-round match against Bournemouth 2-1.
Meanwhile, Newcastle drew 2-2 with Liverpool.
