Dutch player Xavi Simons spoke about his controversial departure from Barcelona's La Masia academy.
Xavi Simons currently plays for Tottenham and his contract runs until 2030.
Xavi Simons was one of the players who were in La Masia academy but was not destined to continue with Barcelona.
The 23-year-old said in statements reported by the Spanish newspaper "Marca": "It was clear from their side that they did not believe in me, at that moment, I chose not to speak because I was only focused on the pitch, but they told me: We have other players we believe in and we want to offer you a contract, but you are not one of the players who form an essential part of the project".
He added: "For me, the decision was clear, and people don't know what happened, they have an opinion based on what they heard, but this is the real story".
Simons revealed his feeling of pain for staying at home for a long time, saying: "I lived there all my life, I went through different circumstances, and I experienced everything there, I spent my entire childhood there, so I love the club, everything that happened hurt me and hurt my family too, the situation was simple, they preferred other players at that time, and this did not bother me".
