Martin O'Neill, the Scottish Celtic coach, personally inquired about signing Al Ahly player Imam Ashour during the summer transfer window.

Imam Ashour delivered a standout performance with the Egyptian national team in the 2026 World Cup.

According to the newspaper celtsarehere, Celtic's scouting team has been monitoring Imam Ashour over the past period.

The report stated that Imam Ashour has a desire to leave Al Ahly, and participating in the Champions League next season would certainly tempt him to move to Celtic.

Celtic were informed that securing Imam Ashour's services would require around 4 million pounds sterling, a figure well within reach for the Scottish giants.

English club Coventry City is also currently seeking to sign the 28-year-old player, with Frank Lampard taking a personal interest in him.

Al Ahly Club wishes to renew Imam Ashour's contract, with negotiations set to begin after the player returns from vacation.

Imam Ashour's contract with Al Ahly runs until June 2028.

Imam Ashour scored two goals for Egypt in the World Cup, joining the list of Pharaohs' scorers at the tournament.
