Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, the former Leicester City shot-stopper, revealed his struggles to adapt to life after retiring from football.
Schmeichel, who is 39 years old, retired from football at the end of last season, following a career spanning nearly 20 years that saw him win the Premier League with Leicester City in the 2015-2016 season.
Schmeichel spoke about his new life in comments highlighted by The Sun newspaper, revealing that he now spends a significant amount of time driving his children, having abruptly transitioned from life as a footballer to post-retirement.
The Danish goalkeeper said he has become like a "full-time taxi driver" for his three children, explaining that the transition to this new life was strange for him and that he was not adequately prepared for it.
Schmeichel added that he is undertaking some coaching courses and participating in television work, alongside spending more time with his children, while confirming that his desire to work within football still exists.
The former Leicester City goalkeeper clarified that he wishes to enter the field of coaching, whether as a head coach or in another coaching role, noting that he has already begun obtaining the necessary courses and qualifications for this.
Schmeichel believes that retiring due to injury made him feel that his career did not end in the way he had hoped, especially since he did not make the decision to retire himself, which has kept a strong desire within him to compete and work in football.
