The future of Spanish midfielder Marc Casadó remains suspended between staying at Barcelona in a secondary role or leaving in search of regular playing time, at a time when the Catalan club refuses to sell him cheaply and does not wish to pressure him into departing despite the clear limitations on his chances of making the starting lineup.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", Barcelona has clarified to the 22-year-old player that he will not be forced to leave because he is bound by a valid contract, yet at the same time they have been frank with him that his role will be entirely secondary should he choose to stay, especially after German coach Hansi Flick stated that competition for the midfield positions is extremely fierce and that it will be difficult for Casadó to secure sufficient playing time this season.
In reality, Casadó’s role was very limited last season, as he played approximately 1,000 minutes less than in his first season under Flick, despite featuring in roughly the same number of matches, which was 34.
Flick tells Casadó the bitter truth
The German coach explained the situation to the player with complete candor, making clear that he is behind Pedri, Gavi, Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong, and Eric García, who is considered an ideal multi-positional player for Flick’s tactical philosophy.
If Casadó decides to stay, he knows full well that he will have to make an exceptional effort to climb back from the bottom and prove himself amid fierce competition from established stars in the starting lineup, but the final decision remains his alone.
No cheap sale
Barcelona fully understands that Casadó needs regular playing time to develop his talent and that, given his high technical ability, he is capable of finding a good club that will give him the opportunity he deserves.
The Catalan club does not want to sell him cheaply because it considers him a valuable asset and a promising player; he is a young man at the beginning of his career, has represented Spain at senior international level, and always delivers standout performances and impressive levels whenever he plays for the team.
Before 30 June, the club received several offers for Casadó and was close to accepting one worth only 10 million euros, but ultimately decided to wait and secure a better, more profitable transfer deal rather than rush into selling him at a price that does not reflect his true value.
Attractive Saudi offers
Casadó has received lucrative financial offers from Saudi Pro League clubs, but the young Spanish player is strongly hesitant about moving to a league considered below the level of the major European leagues, despite differing opinions among those close to him regarding the merits of such a step.
Some of those close to Casadó believe the Saudi offer represents an exceptional financial opportunity that may not come again, while others think that moving to the Saudi league at this early stage of his career could harm his technical development and his future chances of representing the Spanish national team.
Until now, Casadó’s fate remains undecided, and the final decision will be taken by the player himself in the coming days or weeks, amid increasing pressure to settle his position before the summer transfer window closes, especially since Barcelona needs to know his final decision in order to plan better for the rest of the season.
