Cristiano Ronaldo announced his departure from the Portugal national team camp, following head coach Jorge Jesus's press conference and after a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, confirming that he would reveal the true reasons behind his decision at an appropriate time.
Ronaldo said in a statement on his official Facebook page: "Following the national team coach's press conference, and after a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the training camp."
He added, "In due course, I will reveal to the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons behind my departure from the national team, which I have always dedicated myself to serving."
The Portugal captain continued: "The time has now come for me to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates, without exception."
Ronaldo's decision comes amid reports of a crisis with Jorge Jesus, after the Portugal captain missed the recent match against Norway despite warming up in preparation to come on as a substitute.
Jesus confirmed during the press conference ahead of the Denmark match that Ronaldo was not supposed to play in the first two games, noting that he would only use him if he needed his services, and stressing that the decision to field any player rests solely with him.
The Portuguese coach stated that the federation president attended and spoke with him and Ronaldo after dinner, clarifying that there was no crisis in the first place, before affirming that no player, regardless of their name or status, would change his tactical decisions.
